
Nichols places fourth in long jump at NCAAs

At last season’s meet, Nichols finished 13th in the event
EUGENE, Ore. – The Texas Tech women wrapped up day two of the NCAA Outdoor Championships, highlighted by Monae' Nichols claiming fourth in the long jump, Thursday evening at Hayward Field.
A year after placing 13th in the event, Nichols leaped nine spots to finish fourth this season in her last as a Red Raider, scoring five points. Nichols' best mark was registered at 6.54m (21-5.50). In the process, she walks away as a First Team All-American.
Ruta Lasmane placed 16th in the long jump, measuring in at 6.17m (20-3), leaving with Second Team All-American honors.
Rosemary Chukwuma ran to the tune of a new personal best of 10.99, lowering her own school record which was 11.05 as the Nigerian placed second in her heat, automatically advancing to Saturday's final. She is the first Red Raider to post a sub 11 time in Tech history. Meanwhile in the 200, Chukwuma booked a time of 22.94, placing 14th overall en route to Second Team All-American honors.

Chloe Wall battled all the way and concluded her final season placing ninth in the pole vault, topping out at a height of 4.30m (14-1.25). It was her first appearance at the NCAA outdoor meet. Only one other athlete from the west finished ahead of her and that was Arkansas' Amanda Fassold who was the runner-up.
