Hoover was named Southland Freshman of the Year in 2022
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech softball head coach Craig Snider announced the addition of pitcher Sage Hoover, Monday.
The 2022 Southland Freshman of the Year and a First Team All-Southland selection, Hoover went 11-7 in 2022 pitching to an ERA of 2.56.
"We are excited for Sage and our program," Snider said. "She is an elite pitcher with a next level mound presence, and her ability to get swings and misses in the strikezone will complement our pitching staff well."
A native of Edgewood, Texas, Hoover led the Southland with 175 punchouts in 134 innings of work and recorded an astounding 9.3 strikeouts per seven innings pitched.
Hitting the ground running from the start, Hoover opened her career with the Lady Demons by tossing a two-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts. The outing was her first of 12 contests she had with at least seven punchouts, and the first of six double-digit strikeout performances.
On April 12 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Hoover pitched 12 innings (222 pitches) striking out a program-record 18 batters. The Texan did not allow a hit until the seventh and allowed just one unearned run in NSU's 2-1 win.
Just 10 days later, Hoover one-upped her performance on the 12th, when she fired her first collegiate no-hitter against UIW. The hurler recorded eight strikeouts in the 1-0 Lady Demons victory. The complete game was the ninth of her 11 complete games on the season.
One of the best players and pitchers in East Texas in 2021, Hoover went 24-0 during her senior season, pitching to a miniscule 0.32 ERA. The pitcher allowed just seven runs in 130 innings pitched, striking out 287.
The TSWA 3A and East Texas Player of the Year, Hoover went 47-2 during her three high school seasons, amassing over 500 punchouts.
Hoover will enroll at Tech this fall and will have three years of eligibility remaining.
