Tiglea wins qualifying match to advance at tournament

LUBBOCK, Texas – Sophomore Cristina Tiglea was victorious on the first day of the West Texas Pro Tennis Open hosted at the McLeod Tennis Center.
Facing a tough matchup in Oklahoma State's Sofia Rojas, who is also a three-seed in the qualifying draw, Tiglea would drop the first set, 6-1, but come back to force a super tiebreak with a 7-6 (4) breaker score.
In the super tiebreak, both players went back-and-forth, but eventually, the Milan, Italy native was able to win 10-8 and become the only Red Raider to advance to the second round of qualifying, where she will face 14-seeded Indianna Spink of Arkansas.
The first round of the singles and doubles main draws are set as No. 115 Olivia Peet will face Arkansas' Carolina Gomez, No. 67 Avelina Sayfetdinova will take on a qualifier and freshman Yekaterina Dmitrichenko will match up with six-seeded UCF player, Jantje Tilbuerger.
In doubles, four-seeded Dmitrichenko and Sayfetdinova face Gomez and Raquel Gonzalez Vilar (Oklahoma State), Peet and Tiglea compete against Iowa State's Ange Oby Kajuru and Anna Supapitch Kuearum and Camryn Stepp and Metka Komac take on two-seeded Katarina Kozarov and Veronica Miroshnichenko (Loyola Marymount) on Wednesday.
