The Red Raiders were ranked 24th in the first Mizuno WGCA Coaches Poll
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – The Texas Tech women's golf program debuted at No. 24 in the first Mizuno WCGA Coaches Poll the WGCA announced last week.
Coming off the program's 21st NCAA Regional appearance, and 11th in 13 seasons under head coach JoJo Robertson, the Red Raiders opened their 2022-23 season this past weekend at the Carmel Cup.
Tech closed the 2021-22 season ranked No. 24 overall after finishing seventh at the NCAA Stanford Regional.
Led by junior Gala Dumez, the Red Raiders finished sixth among the loaded field that included: No. 1 Stanford, No. 11 Texas A&M, No. 15 Oklahoma State and No. 22 Arizona. In total, six of the eight teams were ranked inside the WCGA Top-25, and all eight were at least receiving votes (Mississippi State, Vanderbilt).
Dumez opened with back-to-back below par rounds to finish at -1 overall, good for a tie for sixth.
The Red Raiders are one of four Big 12 programs to be ranked, joining the Cowgirls (No. 15), Texas (No. 16) and Baylor (No. 18).
Women's golf returns to action a week from Monday (Sept. 12) for the Dick McGuire Invitational hosted by the University of New Mexico.
