
Correa Earns Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week Honors

LUBBOCK, Texas. – After helping the Red Raiders to an unblemished 4-0 record last week with a valiant defensive effort, sophomore libero Maddie Correa was named the Big 12 Conference's Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
Correa earned her first Big 12 honor after recording double-digit digs in all four matches, which helped Texas Tech defeat Tarleton State, College of Charleston, Charlotte and Georgia. In doing so, the Red Raiders started the season 6-0 for the first time since 2014.
Against Tarleton, Correa collected a career-high 19 digs (6.33 digs per set) in the sweep over the Texans. After heading to Athens, Ga., for the Bulldog Classic, Correa kept up her defense with 14 digs over Charleston (4.67 d/s), while also recording two aces and six assists.
Helping lead the team to its next victory over Charlotte, Correa posted 15 digs (3.75 d/s), two aces and three assists in the match.
In the final game of the Bulldog Classic, the Red Raiders faced SEC-foe and host-team Georgia, where they pulled out a gritty, 3-1 victory over the Bulldogs. In the match, Correa led the charge with 18 total digs (4.50 d/s), four assists and one ace.
Overall, she tallied 66 digs (4.71 d/s), 18 assists and five aces. In addition, Correa has put together double-digit dig efforts in every single match of the season so far, making her the only Red Raider to do so.
Up next, Tech heads to Houston for the Adidas Invitational hosted by Rice University, who is receiving votes in the latest AVCA poll. The Red Raiders are set to face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Brown and Rice on Sept. 9-11.
