Tennis heads to Midland for first tournament of the fall

LUBBOCK, Texas. – The Texas Tech men's tennis team opens its fall season at Racquet Club Prize Money Invitational on Sept. 9-11 as six players will head to Midland, Texas for the tournament.
The six Red Raiders – Sebastian Abboud, Isaac Arevalo, Dimitrios Azoidis, Franco Ribero, Tyler Stewart and Olle Wallin – will all make the trip down to Midland for their first competition of the season.
Texas Tech is coming off a 2021 season that saw 14 victories, including wins over LSU, Tulsa, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. The team also made it to the first round of the NCAA Tournament where they faced Auburn at the Wake Forest Regional.
A total of eight players are returning after finishing the 2021 season ranked at No. 41 as a team. Arevalo, who played at No. 1 singles last year, ended 2021 with an ITA singles ranking of No. 77. Arevalo also found himself ranked in the ITA Preseason Rankings at No. 51.
At the Racquet Club Prize Money Invitational, the Red Raiders will face some of the top collegiate talent in the nation. All doubles matches on Friday, Sept. 9 will begin at 5 p.m., while three singles matches start at 9 a.m. (Arevalo, Stewart, Wallin) and three at 10:30 a.m. (Abboud, Azoidis, Ribero) the same morning.
