HOW IT HAPPENED
Set One
Both teams started the set tied at 3-3 before Tech went on a 3-0 run sparked by an Islanders error. TAMUCC cut into Tech's lead when they served an ace for a one-point deficit at 10-9. The Red Raiders didn't let that faze them as they went on a huge, 8-3 run after a kill from O'Brien started it. Again, the Islanders would make a run of their own, but Tech ended the set on a 5-1 run to win, 25-19.
Set Two
The Red Raiders started the second set on a 9-4 run highlighted by kills from O'Brien, Sauer and Kanas. Tech would continue its hot start when O'Brien got to the service line at 13-7. She would serve eight consecutive times, picking up two aces along the way, to give Tech a 21-8 advantage. TAMUCC would fight back, but the Red & Black would take the set by a score of 25-15 on a Brynn Williams kill.
Set Three
The Islanders came out firing in the third set as they took an early 9-6 lead. Tech would eventually tie the set at 12-all on an attack error by the Islanders, then would take a 13-12 lead with a Marusak slam. The match was back-and-forth until it was 16-16, when Tech would take the lead on two TAMUCC errors and three back-to-back-to-back aces from Hoskins to make it 21-16. Tech would go on to sweep the Islanders with a 25-19 set after Kanas slammed down her seventh kill of the match.
