Lady Raiders earn four titles at ACU Invitational

ABILENE, Texas – A couple Lady Raiders won their flights in singles, while two doubles teams were the last standing in their flights at the ACU Invitational this past weekend. Overall, Texas Tech had a phenomenal weekend at the tournament after compiling an overall 14-4 record with four titles.
The doubles pairing of Andreea Lila and Jermine Sherif went 3-0 together as the duo won Flight A. They first defeated the ACU duo of Hebe Toyos and Masha Vrsalovic, 8-2, and then beat the tandem of Maretha Burger and Martha Makantasi (Tarleton State), 8-2. The Lady Raiders won their flight when they overtook the New Mexico State pair of Valeriia Ivanovskaia and Mingfang Lisa Zhu, 8-6.
Over in Flight B, the duo of Arina Oreshchenkova and Camryn Stepp won their first match against Varvara Nikolaeva and Natsuki Nishimura (New Mexico State), 8-5. They would advance to the finals with a victory over ACU's Libby Blair and Maryjoe Crisologo, 9-8 (1), before coming out with the Flight B title after beating Ximena Morales Araneda and Emma Persson of Tarleton State, 8-1. The Lady Raiders would go a perfect 6-0 over the weekend in doubles.
In singles, Lila was able to win Flight A after collecting three victories. First, she overtook Tarleton State's Elsa Boisson, 6-1, 6-0, and then defeated Anna Pinaieva of New Mexico State, 6-1, 6-3. Lila's set record would remain unblemished as she defeated Persson, 6-3, 6-1, in the finals.
Oreshchenkova also tallied a perfect set record at the ACU Invite when she went 3-0 in singles to win Flight B. The Lady Raider defeated Ivanovskaia, 6-3, 6-4, in the first round and then beat Makantasi, 7-6 (0), 6-4, to advance to the finals. Oreshchenkova won the title when she overtook UTSA's Ekua Youri by a 6-2, 6-2 score.
Sherif would earn fourth place in Flight A where she picked up her first win as a Lady Raider against UTSA's Cassie Mclay, 6-2, 6-2. Stepp won the Silver Draw when she won her match against Nikolaeva, 6-4, 6-2, on Sunday morning. Tech concluded the weekend with eight total singles wins and two more titles.
Tech is continuing its fall competition as qualifying Lady Raiders are currently competing at the ITA All-American Championships over the next week in Cary, N.C.
