Goalie Madison White, Defender Hannah Anderson, Freshman Sam Courtwright and Head Coach Tom Stone all took home yearly awards
LUBBOCK, Texas – Fresh off an undefeated regular season and winning the first regular season Big 12 title in program history, the Texas Tech Red Raiders cleaned up at the yearly Big 12 Conference honors, earning four different "of the year" awards and placing seven total players on various teams.
The player of the year portion of the annual postseason awards featured four Red Raiders, as goalie Madison White earned Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Year, while defender Hannah Anderson earned the conference's Defensive Player of the Year.
After a stellar freshman campaign in Lubbock, midfielder Sam Courtwright also took home a yearly honor, as the Dallas native was tabbed the Big 12's Freshman of the Year.
The Big 12's Coach of the Year was a unanimous selection and also came from Lubbock, as coach Tom Stone was selected as the coach of the year for the first time in his career.
Stone and the coaching staff helped lead the Red Raiders to a program-record 14 total regular season victories and a program-record eight Big 12 victories, as the Red Raiders recorded the first undefeated regular season in school history and the first perfect (10-0-0) home regular season in program history.
In the end, the Red Raiders placed five of the 11 members of the Big 12's First Team highlighted by the selections of Anderson, Courtwright and White.
The trio were joined on the 11-player first team by defender Macy Blackburn and forward Ashleigh Williams, who both recorded career years for the Red Raiders in 2023.
Before suffering a season-ending injury in the 1-0 victory over TCU, Blackburn recorded an impressive 11 assists in her 15 matches played before injury.
Blackburn's 11 helpers contributed to Tech's program-record 57 assists in 2023 as the Red Raiders recorded 141 points in 18 matches.
One of the best forwards in the country, Williams also had a career year in 2023 scoring a career-best 14 goals and contributing six assists (also a career-high). And while the 14 goals were certainly impressive, it was Williams' knack for scoring key goals for Tech that proved invaluable in 2023, as the Allen native had seven of her 14 goals serve as a game-winner including strikes that helped seal the Red Raiders final two one-goal victories over OSU and ISU.
Tech's five total first team selections are also the most in program history and are the third-most by a team in Big 12 history.
Senior Alex Kerr was the other Red Raider to earn all-conference honors as the Vanderbilt transfer took home Second Team All-Big 12 honors after recording 10 goals and five assists.
The 2023 Red Raiders are also special because of a strong freshman core highlighted by Courtwright and fellow freshman Chloe Soto who were selected to the 2023 All-Freshman as well.
