Tech in 14th after day one of Illini Women's invite

The Red Raiders sit in 14th place after shooting +22 in the first two rounds of the Illini Women's invite
MEDINAH, Illi. – The Texas Tech women's golf program concluded day one of the Women's Invitational at Medinah in 14th place, just one shot behind 13th place TCU.
Senior Gala Dumez and freshman Maja Ambroziak led the way for the Red Raiders, both finishing inside the top 50 after the first two rounds.
Dumez started out hot in round one after she birdied her third hole in the first round. The senior would go on to fire two more and finish +1 in round one.
In round two, Dumez shot one over on the front nine, but would birdie the 12th hole to put her back to even. Like her first round, Dumez concluded round two one over and tied for 35th.
Ambroziak started her first round with eight straight pars, but quickly got hot after she made the turn. The freshman birdied two of her first three holes on the back nine and even fired an eagle on her 16th hole. After round one, Ambroziak was tied for fifth and two under par.
Picking up where she left off in round one, Ambroziak fired two birdies on the front nine to push her score to one under through 27 holes. She would go on to shoot five over on the back nine and finish tied for 47th (+4).
Sophomore Shannon Tan, who is playing for the first time since participating in the KLPGA tournament, started round one similarly to Dumez. Tan shot two birdies on the front nine in round one and would go on to finish even in round one.
Like Dumez and Ambroziak, Tan also slowed down in round two. The sophomore recorded one birdie on the front nine and would conclude her day tied for 50th at five over par.
As a team, the Red Raiders shot a combined score of 22 over par.
LSU (-14) used a strong opening round to take a six-shot lead over Northwestern (-8). Georgia (-5), Ole Miss (-3), San Jose State (-2), SMU (-2) and Ohio State (-1) roudn out the top-seven teams. Oklahoma State and Alabama sit tied for eighth at +4, two shots clear of 10th place Houston (+6).
Host Illinois is in 11th at +15, followed by Oklahoma (+17), TCU (+21), Tech (+22) and UNCW (+27).

The Red Raiders will close out the Women's Invitational at Medinah tomorrow, Tuesday Oct. 10. The third and final round is set to start at 8:30 a.m. (CT)
