No. 4 Longhorns sweep Red Raiders

AUSTIN, Texas – The Texas Tech Red Raiders dropped their season finale to No. 4 Texas by a score of 0-3 on Saturday in the Gregory Gymnasium.
The Red Raiders (11-19, 4-14) were led by senior Caitlin Dugan who finished with double-digit kills for the 19th time this season as she recorded 10 kills.
The Longhorns (22-4, 17-1) trio of Madisen Skinner, Asjia O'Neal and Molly Phillips combined for 40.5 of Texas' 60 points.
SET HIGHLIGHTS
The Longhorns jumped out to an early 7-2 lead in the first set, but Tech was able to fight back and tie it at 11. The Red Raiders were not able to get control of a lead as the Longhorns went on an 8-1 run which helped eventually close out the first set 25-17.
Texas came out strong in set number two, as they led 22-8 late in the set before a quick 6-2 run by the Red Raiders made it a little more interesting. The Longhorns, however, were not fazed as they secured the 2-0 match lead.
Tech got its first lead of the match at 2-1 and again at 4-3 thanks to two Caitlin Dugan kills. Texas again struck back though, going up 18-9 before a Tech timeout. Out of the break, the Longhorns swiftly closed out the match to secure a 3-0 win in their final home match of the season.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Brynn Williams was right behind Dugan in terms of kills with seven.
- Maddie Correa led the way defensively with 12 digs.
- Katelyn Cochran and Reese Rhodes combined for 22 assists.
- Reagan Engler got in on four blocks and recorded two kills.
