Red Raiders look to extend five-game win streak
LUBBOCK, Texas – Riding a five-game win streak, Texas Tech will travel to in-state foe Texas State for a midweek doubleheader Wednesday. Game one is set for 2 p.m.

The Red Raiders (20-7) are riding a five-game win streak after sweeping the Texas Tech Invitational last week. Four of Tech's five wins came in high-scoring fashion as they run ruled Buffalo, Manhattan and New Mexico.

Under first-year head coach Craig Snider, Texas Tech currently boasts a 20-7 record, good for the program's best start since 2019.

Makinzy Herzog led the Red Raiders last weekend batting .714 with two doubles, two home runs and eight RBIs. Four members of the Texas Tech squad batted above .600 while all but one starter batted above .350.

The Bobcats (18-7) entered the DI Softball rankings at No. 25 this week after picking up wins over No. 9 Alabama and No. 10 Texas last weekend. Leading the way at the helm of the pitching staff is 2023 Sun Belt Preseason Pitcher of the Year Jessica Mullins. Mullins holds a 1.19 ERA and an 11-4 record after having fanned 81 batters in her 88.0 innings of work. Ciara Trahan leads the offense batting .353 with a pair of doubles.

• As just a freshman, Kailey Wyckoff is quickly making a name for herself. The Katy, Texas native ranks fourth nationally in triples (four), 10th in slugging percentage (.929) and total bases (65), 12th in doubles (nine) and 22nd in batting average (.471).
• Head Coach Craig Snider has been quotes many times saying that "the sign of a good offense is hitting doubles," and his Red Raiders have mastered the craft. Texas Tech leads the nation with 58 doubles.
• On a pitching staff that all eight hurlers are seen, transfer Sage Hoover leads the way with 56.0 innings of work, a 2.25 ERA and 67 strikeouts. The righty holds an 10-0 record, ranking ninth nationally in victories.
• Led by first-year head coach Craig Snider, the Red Raiders 20-7 record puts them off to the program's best start since 2019.
• After hitting just 36 home runs throughout the whole 2022 season, the Red Raiders have already smashed 41 home runs through the first 27 games of the season.
• Fifth-year senior Peyton Blythe leads the squad with six home runs this season. Prior to this season, Blythe had just seven home runs in her career, three of which were hit in 2022.
• The Texas Tech Red Raiders begin a new era under head coach Craig Snider this season. Snider made previous stops at Texas A&M and Florida State as an assistant before becoming the ninth head coach in school history. The Franklin, Kentucky native brings a slew of post season experience, including a national championship.
• During the Red Raiders trip to El Paso, Texas for UTEP's tournament, the team coined a new softball-specific - Dwayne the Rock. During Dwayne's first tournament with the team, Tech posted a perfect 6-0 record and has since decided to keep him along for the rest of the 2023 campaign and can be seen with Page Mindedahl during starting lineups, every game.
• Texas Tech will hit the road for seven straight road contests. The Red Raiders will play just one of its next 11 at home.
