
Texas Tech falls at No. 23 Iowa State

AMES, Iowa – Despite scoring nine of the first 11 points, the Texas Tech Lady Raiders fell to No. 23 Iowa State 76-52, Saturday afternoon at Hilton Coliseum.
Texas Tech (18-13, 6-12 Big 12) got off to a strong start on Saturday, scoring nine of the first 11 points over the first three minutes and 14 seconds of the game.
Iowa State (19-9, 11-7 Big 12) answered back with 14 of the final 18 points of the quarter to take a 16-13 lead after 10 minutes of action.
After ISU scored the first two points of the second, Tech answered with the next four to draw to within 18-16 with 8:29 to play in the opening half.
Over the next three minutes and 15 seconds of action, ISU scored the next nine points to take a 27-16 lead with 5:14 to play.
A Rhyle McKinney triple with 4:42 left in the opening half brought Tech to within 27-19 with 4:42 left in the second, but ISU answered with 12 of the next 14 points to take a 39-21 lead.
Tech used an and-one from Bryn Gerlich to pull to within 39-24 with 59 seconds left, but ISU answered with the final four to take a 43-24 lead into the break.
The Cyclones answered with the first five points of the second half 12 of the first 18 points to take a 55-30 lead with 5:30 left in the third.
ISU ended up finishing the third quarter up 63-34, in the xx-xx victory.
On her senior night, Ashley Joens scored a game-high 22 points while Emily Ryan added 12 points, 11 rebounds and five assists.
Freshman Bailey Maupin led the way for Tech, scoring 10 points in 29 minutes. Bre'Amber Scott and forward Jazmaine Lewis added eight points each.
