
Tech to square off against Kansas

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech will travel to Lawrence to take on Kansas in the squad's final road Big 12 series.

The Red Raiders (29-17, 3-9 Big 12) check into the weekend after taking game one against No. 18 Baylor last weekend. Tech's offense is red-hot heading in the weekend, posting a total of 26 runs against the Bears.

Freshman Kailey Wyckoff led the Red Raider offense with an impressive .778 clip, seven runs scored, two doubles, a triple, a home run and a pair of RBIs. Wyckoff finished the weekend slugging at 1.556.

All three games of the series will be aired on ESPN+.

After going 1-2 at No. 8 Texas last weekend, the Jayhawks fell to Missouri in Columbia 3-4 in a tightly contested game on Wednesday, bringing KU's record to 20-20.

Junior catcher Lyric Moore leads KU with a .298 batting average. Moore also has a team-high 34 hits, 23 RBI and 10 doubles. In the circle, freshman right-hander Lizzy Ludwig has a team-low 1.82 ERA and has the second most saves in the Big 12 with three. Ludwig has also given up the third-fewest hits in the Big 12 (41) and a conference-low one home run.

• As just a freshman, Kailey Wyckoff is quickly making a name for herself. The freshman leads a veteran Texas Tech squad in batting average (.435), on-base percentage (.497), doubles (15), triples (5) and total bases (109). She ranks seventh nationally in doubles, eighth in total bases, 15th in triples, 16th in slugging percentage and hits and 23rd in batting average.Â
• Head Coach Craig Snider has been quotes many times saying that "the sign of a good offense is hitting doubles," and his Red Raiders have mastered the craft. Texas Tech leads the nation with 86 doubles.
• In last Friday night's win over Baylor, the Red Raiders smashed three home runs to bring their season total to 64, smashing the single-season home run record of 63 set in 2012. Tech would finish the weekend with 71 home runs on the season.
• During the Red Raiders trip to El Paso, Texas for UTEP's tournament, the team coined a new softball-specific - Dwayne the Rock. During Dwayne's first tournament with the team, Tech posted a perfect 6-0 record and has since decided to keep him along for the rest of the 2023 campaign and can be seen with Page Mindedahl during starting lineups, every game.Â
• After downing No. 25 Texas State in a doubleheader and toppling No. 22 Maryland, Texas Tech won three consecutive ranked matchups for just the third time in program history. With last Friday night's win over No. 18 Baylor, Tech has four ranked wins for the first time since 2019.
• This season, the Red Raiders have strung together two separate hefty win streaks. From February 11 to February 23, Texas Tech held a nine-game win streak while from March 10 to March 18, the Red Raiders held a 10-game win streak.
• Of Texas Tech's 17 losses, six of those have been by just one run (Tulsa, UT Arlington, Seton Hall, Texas (2), Iowa State).
• After just 27 plate appearances her freshman season, Demi Elder has come up clutch in the outfield for the Red Raiders. She's seen action in 41 games with 30 starts so far this season. The left-handed hitter has already tripled her at-bats from a year ago and tallied 10 extra-base hits after only have two hits total last season. Normally known for her speed, she has developed a home run hitting swing under Coach Snider. The sophomore was responsible for the home run that would break the single-season program record.
• Senior Ellie Bailey etched her name in Texas Tech's single-season home run record. She ranks fifth with 15 bombs so far this season.
