LUBBOCK, Texas – It's been six years since the last time a Red Raider earned a bid into the NCAA Individual Tournament for singles, but junior Olle Wallin has become just the 10th player in program history to claim a spot in the postseason tournament as an at-large bid.
The last Red Raider to make the NCAA Individual Championships in singles was Jolan Cailleau in 2017 when he made a Round of 16 appearance with wins over USC's Brandon Holt and Georgia's Emil Reinberg.
Ranked No. 47 in the latest ITA singles rankings, Wallin has helped lead Texas Tech to 14 wins and its 19th NCAA Tournament berth this season as the Red Raiders open the first round of the postseason this Saturday.
Picking up his first career All-Big 12 First Team honor last week, the Halmstad, Sweden native is tied for the most singles wins on the team with 15, while also going an impressive 13-5 in the dual season at court one. His nine ranked singles victories puts him first on the team as he also collected two ranked wins during conference play over No. 98 Alex Martinez (OU) and No. 73 Jack Pinnington (TCU).
The NCAA Singles and Doubles National Championships will be held at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla., from May 22-27.
Wallin and the Red Raiders will travel to Columbus, Ohio first for the NCAA First and Second Rounds as they take on 3-seed Louisville this Saturday, May 6 at 9 a.m. If Tech wins, they will play the winner of host-school Ohio State and East Tennessee State on Sunday, May 7.
