Tech opens Big 12 Tournament with Texas Thursday

LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 7 seeded Red Raiders will rematch the No. 2 seed Texas in the opening round of the Big 12 Tournament Thursday in Oklahoma City.

The showdown will be a rematch of last year's opening round matchup, where the two squads met at the three and six seeds. During this year's regular season series, Texas Tech (31-21, 5-13 Big 12) held a late-innings lead in the first two matchups before ultimately losing the series 3-0.

Kailey Wyckoff has gone toe-to-toe with the Longhorns (40-12-1, 11-7 Big 12) leading freshman Leighann Goode. Wyckoff ended the regular season batting .401 with 15 doubles, five triples and nine home runs while Goode finished the year at a .348 clip with 15 doubles, three triples and seven home runs.

 The game is set for 3 p.m. following No. 4 Baylor and No. 5 Iowa State noon contest and will be aired on ESPN+.

 Texas enters the tournament with a top-eight seed on the line as they currently sit at No. 10 in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Poll. The Longhorns are led offensively by Mia Scott who is batting .393 with 15 doubles, a pair of triples and home runs and 32 RBIs. A trio of freshmen follow Scott at the plate in Ashton Maloney, Viviana Martinez and Goode.

Inside the circle, Citlaly Gutierrez and Mac Morgan see the majority of innings and boast a 1.85 and 2.00 ERA, respectively. The duo has combined for 134 strikeouts over216.2 innings of work.

• Kailey Wyckoff Wyckoff finished the regular season ranked sixth in the hitter-heavy conference in batting average (.401), fifth in slugging percentage (.755), fifth in OPS (1.215), 10th in runs scored (40), seventh in hits (58), third in doubles (15) and first in triples (5).
• Head Coach Craig Snider has been quotes many times saying that "the sign of a good offense is hitting doubles," and his Red Raiders have mastered the craft. Texas Tech ranks sixth in the nation with 90 doubles.
• In Friday night's win over Baylor, the Red Raiders smashed three home runs to bring their season total to 64, smashing the single-season home run record of 63 set in 2012. Tech currently has 73 home runs on the season.
• After downing No. 25 Texas State in a doubleheader and toppling No. 22 Maryland, Texas Tech won three consecutive ranked matchups for just the third time in program history. With last Friday night's win over No. 18 Baylor, Tech has four ranked wins for the first time since 2019.
• Senior Ellie Bailey etched her name in Texas Tech's single-season home run record. She ranks fourth with 16 bombs so far this season.
• Head coach Craig Snider became just the third coach in program history to win 30-plus games in the first season at the helm. He is also just the third coach in program history to earn five or more ranked wins in their first season.
• Texas Tech toppled No. 6 Oklahoma State in game two of the Saturday doubleheader, 5-3. It marked the first win of the Cowgirls since 2016. It also marked the Red Raiders highest ranked win since beating No. 5 Texas in 2012.
