LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech soccer and head coach Tom Stone announced the signing of SEC champion Alex Kerr Tuesday. The graduate student will have one season of eligibility.
Â
Alex Kerr heads to the Hub City after spending the first four years of her career at Vanderbilt, where she won an SEC tournament and division title. She will spend her final year of eligibility at Texas Tech.
Â
"When Alex Kerr became available last fall, we jumped at the chance to speak with her about Texas Tech as an option for her fifth year as a graduate transfer," head coach Tom Stone said. "Alex is a great fit for our culture and playing style and will fill the need for an experienced attacker and goal scorer within our young squad. We are excited to get to work with her during her final collegiate season."
Â
As a Commodore, the forward made 63 total appearances and 26 starts. She tallied 12 goals and four assists, good for 28 career points. The Chapel Hill, North Carolina native brings a wealth of playing time to Tech as she logged nearly 2,000 minutes for Vandy.
Â
Kerr and the Commodores came to life in SEC action during the 2020 season, posting an 8-4 league record and winning three of their final four contests before the SEC Tournament. Vandy went on to win four games to earn the 2020 SEC Tournament Championship and earn a bid into the NCAA Tournament.
Â
During the 2019 campaign, Kerr helped lead the Commodores to a SEC Eastern Division championship, setting up Vandy for an NCAA Tournament berth. She went on to appear in the NCAA Tournament in three of her four season in the gold and black.
Â
As a senior, Kerr appeared in all 21 contests and scored the second-most goals on the squad. She posted a career-high six goals and an assist, en route to 13 points.
Â
Kerr trades her gold and black for the scarlet and black and will suit up as No. 7 when the Red Raiders open their season at New Mexico on August 17.
