
Tech hosts Red Raider Classic this weekend

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Red Raider volleyball team is back at home this week as they host the annual Red Raider Classic on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 1-2. The Red Raiders will face the Wyoming Cowgirls first on Sept. 1 at 7 p.m., before playing a doubleheader against the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions and the Louisiana Rajin' Cajuns at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively, on Sept. 2.
Tech is coming off an undefeated, 4-0 weekend at the Under Armour Challenge, picking up wins against Houston Christian, Wichita State, Notre Dame and Abilene Christian. As a team, Tech totals 212 kills, 193 assists, 21 aces, 298 digs and 50.0 blocks.
Sophomore Brynn Williams leads the team in kills (72) and points (80.0), senior Reese Rhodes has a team-best 97 assists and freshman Abby Dickinson posts a team-high five aces. Defensively, freshman Kate Hansen leads the team with 27.0 blocks and junior Maddie Correa leads with 77 digs.
Williams also leads the nation in kills, points and attacks (199), Hansen leads the country in blocks and Correa is the leader in digs. As a team, the Red Raiders lead nationally in the following categories: assists, digs, kills, blocks and attacks (635).
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Texas Tech and Wyoming have faced each other five times in program history, with the Red Raiders boasting an overall 4-1 record over the Cowgirls. It's been a while since the two teams have played as the last match resulted in a Tech sweep on Oct. 16, 2005. The Cowgirls started the season out undefeated as they went 3-0 with victories over Winthrop, Green Bay and South Dakota State, only conceding one set in those three games. Tierney Barlow leads the team with 35 kills and a .535 hitting clip, followed by Rylee Schulz with 32. Kasia Partyka has a team-best 125 assists, Skylar Erickson boasts a team-high 32 digs, while Barlow and Sarah Holcomb lead the Cowgirls with 12 blocks each. As a team, Wyoming totals 158 kills, 151 assists, 12 aces, 130 digs and 29.0 blocks.
The Red Raiders are undefeated against Texas A&M-Commerce in program history, holding a 5-0 all-time record over the Lions. The last time the two teams played was on Sept. 23, 1985 when Tech swept TAMU-Commerce. The Lions are 2-2 overall this season after dropping a couple matches to Missouri State and UTSA and winning matches against Texas Southern and Abilene Christian. Offensively, the Lions are led by Reese Fetty with 37 kills, Breann Connally with 63 assists and Millie Allgood with five aces. Defensively, Jade Smith leads the Lions with 53 digs and Avery Wilks posts a team-best 11.0 blocks. As a team, Texas A&M-Commerce tallies 142 kills, 135 assists, 26 aces, 177 digs and 30.5 blocks.
Tech holds an all-time, 4-0 record over the Louisiana Rajin' Cajuns. The two teams most recently played on Aug. 28, 2015 as the Red Raiders swept Louisiana, 3-0. The Ragin' Cajuns are 3-1 on the season so far, with their only loss coming in a five-set match against SEC-foe Mississippi State, and their wins coming against Northwestern State, Eastern Kentucky and No. 18 Rice. Their sweep over a ranked Rice team was their first ranked win in 10 years and first top-20 win of the century. On the offensive end, Louisiana is led by Shyia Richardson with 66 kills, Siena DeCambra with 149 assists and Kennedy Gustafson with six aces. Defensively, Gustafson leads the team with 53 digs and Cami Hicks has a team-best 11.0 blocks. As a team, Louisiana totals 187 kills, 174 assists, 15 aces, 218 digs and 21.0 blocks.

TICKETS/FAN INFORMATION
Doors open one hour prior to first serve at the Northwest entrance of the United Supermarkets Arena and will close during the non-Tech matches on Saturday. The clear bag policy is in effect for all Texas Tech Athletics events. Fans can purchase tickets online or at the USA during the Tech matches only. The ticket office at the arena will also open one hour prior to the first serve for Tech matches.
