Tech on the road for first time this season

LUBBOCK, Texas – For the first time this season, the Texas Tech Red Raiders are on the road this week as the team faces the North Texas Mean Green on Monday, September 4 at 6 p.m. and then will compete against the Abilene Christian Wildcats on Tuesday, September 5 at 6 p.m.
Tech is coming off a 2-1 weekend at the annual Red Raider Classic, dropping a tough four-set match to the Wyoming Cowgirls, then rebounding with two-straight sweeps over the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions and the Louisiana Rajin' Cajuns on Saturday.
As a team, the Red Raiders total 336 kills (12.4 kills per set), 304 assists, 35 aces, 454 digs and 86.0 blocks. Offensively, Brynn Williams leads Tech with 121.0 points and 108 kills. Reese Rhodes posts a team-high 156 assists, while Abby Dickinson leads with eight aces.
Defensively, Kate Hansen leads with 41.0 blocks followed by Reagan Engler with 30.0. Additionally, Maddie Correa has a team-best 109 digs and Dickinson is right behind with 83.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Texas Tech holds an all-time 21-2 record over North Texas. The last time the two teams met was during the COVID-19 season on March 17, 2021 when Tech lost in three sets. UNT is 3-3 on the year with wins over Campbell, UNLV and Texas Southern and losses to Colorado, Texas State and Houston. Against Texas State, the Mean Green took the Bobcats to five sets, while also claiming a set against No. 13 Houston. As a team, North Texas totals 316 kills, a .272 hitting clip, 299 assists, 26 aces, 311 digs and 38.0 blocks.
The Red Raiders recently played the Abilene Christian Wildcats at the Under Armour Challenge on August 27, 2023 with Tech winning in four sets. The Red Raiders are on a seven-match win streak versus ACU and are 35-2 all-time over the Wildcats. ACU is 4-2 on the season with its two losses coming at the hands of Texas Tech and Texas A&M-Commerce. They recently won matches this week over North Dakota and Grambling State. As a team, the Wildcats have 317 kills, 292 assists, 48 aces, 353 digs and 39.0 total blocks.
