Big 12 releases men’s tennis preseason poll

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Red Raiders were picked to finish tied for sixth by the conference head coaches in the preseason Big 12 poll as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
The Red Raiders recorded 14 wins last season and finished tied for third in conference play after getting wins over both Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Texas Tech went on to make its 19th overall appearance into the NCAA Tournament as a two-seed in the Columbus Regional, and in addition, senior Olle Wallin qualified for the NCAA Singles Championships and was the first Red Raider to do so since 2017.
The Red Raiders completed their fall season with 23 singles wins and nine doubles victories. On the doubles end, the duo of Reed Collier and Jonas Gundacker led the team with a 3-1 record. Collier not only leads the team with seven doubles wins in the fall, but also leads the way with eight singles victories.
Four Red Raiders earned ranked singles wins in the fall as Collier defeated No. 110 Sebastien Collard (MSU), Lorenzo Esquici beat No. 117 Liam Krall (SMU), Tyler Stewart overtook No. 78 Enzo Aquiard (Alabama) and Olle Wallin defeated No. 45 Jonah Braswell (Texas). In doubles, the pairing of Collier and Stewart also got a top-10 doubles win after beating the No. 9-ranked Longhorn duo of Pierre-Yves Bailly and Siem Woldeab.
The Red Raiders will begin their Spring slate with a doubleheader on Jan. 20 with two matches against Wichita State and New Mexico State at the McLeod Tennis Center.
