Brooks named Big 12 Co-Offensive Player of the Week

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech senior running back Tahj Brooks was named the Big 12 Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Monday after he rushed for better than 100 yards for the fifth time in five games this season in the Red Raiders' 28-22 win at Arizona. While piling up 128 rushing yards, he accounted for all three of Texas Tech's touchdowns. scoring from 3 yards, 9 yards and 32 yards, the latter being the game-clincher with under two minutes remaining in the game.
Brooks, who was recognized with a Big 12 weekly award for the first time in his career, averaged 6.1 yards per carry against the Wildcats en route to leading the Red Raiders to their third-consecutive win to start Big 12 play.
Overall, Texas Tech is 5-0 in games Brooks has played this season while the Red Raiders sit atop the Big 12 standings at 3-0 in league play for the first time since 2013. The win also improved Texas Tech's record to 15-2 in games where Brooks rushed for better than 100 yards. It was his 17th career 100-yard game, which ranks as the third-most in program history.
Brooks leads the Big 12 in both rushing yards (679) and rushing yards per game (135.8) despite missing the Washington State trip due to injury. He also ranks in the top five nationally in both categories as well.
His chase for the top spot in career rushing yards in Texas Tech history continues as he passed Ricky Williams for third place in the first half at Arizona. His 128 yards increased his career total to 3,731 rushing yards and is 488 shy of the all-time record. Additionally, Brooks has now rushed for at least 95 yards in 16 consecutive games, which leads all active FBS players and matches the second-longest streak nationally since 1996.
Brooks, who matched a single-game career-high for rushing touchdowns versus Arizona, has now found the end zone at least once in 12 of his last 14 games dating back to last season and has combined for five rushing touchdowns over the last two games alone.
The Red Raiders will be off this upcoming weekend for their first open date before hosting Baylor for homecoming on Oct. 19.Â
