Tech sits ninth after first two rounds at Medinah CC

MEDINAH, Ill. -- Texas Tech women's golf finished the opening two rounds of the Illini Invitational at Medinah in a tie for ninth place on Monday at the historic Medinah Country Club. Lauren Zaretsky led the Red Raiders, carding a 2-over-par 74 in the first round and a 3-under-par 69 in the second round to place her in the top 30 on the individual leaderboard.
Zaretsky sits tied for 28th, with the Red Raiders tied for ninth out of the 15 teams.
With a 3-under-par in the second round and four birdies, Zaretsky secured a season-low round of 69. The junior ended her first round with three birdies, one on the front nine and two on the back nine after a shotgun start at hole 11.
Maja Ambroziak and Danique Stokmans claimed the second and third-best scores for the Red Raiders. Ambroziak solidified her position with five birdies in the first round, carding a 1-under-par 71 and three birdies in the second round, carding a 1-over-par 73 to tie for 34th.
Texas Tech shot a 3-over-par 291 in the first round and sat in a tie for seventh before a 2-under-par 286 in the second round, which oddly dropped the Red Raiders into a tie for ninth.Â
The Red Raiders will continue on Tuesday with the final round. It will be a shotgun start at 9 a.m.
