
Cheruiyot named Big 12 Runner of the Week

It’s the second time this season Cheruiyot wins the weekly honor
IRVING, Texas – Ernest Cheruiyot has been named the Big 12 Runner of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. It's the second time this season Cheruiyot earns the weekly conference honor. On top of that, the sophomore was named the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week Monday afternoon.
Cheruiyot, in his third cross country meet of his career, claimed the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational this past Friday with an 8k time of 22:20.30 – he won the meet by 4.4 seconds. He was one of 17 runners that finished under 23 minutes.

Overall, he paced a group of Red Raiders that placed seventh in the team standings with a 1-29-43-49-102 scoring. His 2024 season now consists of two meet wins and one runner-up finish.
He is the first Red Raider to win the award twice in one season since Miguel Bautista in 2016.
Texas Tech will travel to Hobbs this Friday for its final meet in New Mexico, the NMJC Invite No. 3 at Harry McAdams Park.
