Red Raiders fall to Arizona in fall match of the season
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Red Raiders (14-16, 6-12) fell to Arizona (20-9. 9-9) in four sets despite Brynn Williams posting a career-high 23 kills and adding 12 digs to finish with seven double-doubles on the year. Hanna Borer and Mia Wesley also posted double-doubles as Borer went for 40 assists and 11 digs while Wesley posted 10 kills and a team-high 17 digs.
Emily Merrick finished the season strong as well with nine kills while hitting .304 and adding a block. Maddie Correa held down the backrow with 13 digs and also tacked on four assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Red Raiders and Wildcats traded blows the entire match as it saw 29 ties and 14 lead changes throughout the course of the sour sets.
Tech was able to take the first set 25-23. The Red Raiders held a 16-10 lead and were able to stave off a Wildcat's comeback late in the set. Arizona made it a 23-22 game thanks to a Jaelyn Hodge kill, but service errors would be their undoing as they missed two serves sandwiched in between two kills to end the set.
Set two saw another back-and-forth affair early before Arizona broke a 10-10 tie with an 8-4 run as they went on even the with a 25-18 set win.
Arizona took a late 21-19 lead in the third set as Tech kept answering back until the Wildcats closed it out and won 25-22.
The Wildcats led the whole way through the fourth set. Tech was able to get it within two points at 22-20, but Arizona closed out the match on a 25-22 run to win its seventh-straight match.
