Red Raiders head to San Marcos for Texas State Tournament

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Red Raiders (3-2) will head to San Marcos for the Texas State Tournament beginning on Friday, February 16 and run through Sunday with Tech's first game being against Sam Houston (0-2) at 6:30 p.m. at the Bobcat Softball Stadium.

Following their matchup against the Bearkats, Tech will face Tulsa (2-2) at 10 a.m. and Texas State (5-1) at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday. After that, the Red Raiders will end the tournament against Northern Colorado (1-3) at 10 a.m. and Texas State at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday.

Tech is coming off a solid showing at the JoAnne Graf Classic hosted by Florida State where they went 3-2 and lost only by a combined three points to (RV) Charlotte and Florida State who was ranked No. 4 at the time.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS:
- Tech is 3-4 all-time against the Bearkats with the Red Raiders taking the last matchup by a score of 4-2 in Lubbock on March 1, 2013.
- Tulsa also has the edge in the all-time series with a 10-5 record against the Red Raiders. Tech, however, has won four of the last five matchups including a 12-1 win against them in February of last year.
- The Bobcats are another team that Tech has a lot of history with. The Red Raiders are 21-15 all-time against Texas State including two wins over them last season when they were ranked No. 25.
- Tech has had Northern Colorado's number as they boast a 10-1 record against the Bears and have won eight straight.
QUICK HITS:
- Several Red Raiders recorded career milestones during their opening weekend in Tallahassee.
- Abbie Orrick was the first to do so, hitting two home runs in the same inning against Florida A&M. One of those being a grand slam, the first of her career. She finished the game with five RBIs, also a career best.
- Riley Love had a career game against No. 4 Florida State. She went 3-3 with two home runs and a single. That marked the first time she has recorded three hits in a game and two home runs in a game.
- Ranci Willis recorded the longest outing of her career against (RV) Charlotte on Sunday. The junior went 5.2 innings and allowed just one run. In her 2024 debut, she went 2.0 innings against FAMU and recorded the first win of her career in four starts.
- Two-way player Maddy Wright reached a milestone, recording her 100th career hit after recording a single against No. 4 Florida State on Saturday.
- The Red Raiders are receiving votes in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll for the first time since the 2020 season.
