Red Raiders use more sixth-inning magic to pick up win no. 11
February 24, 2024 | Softball
DENTON, Texas – The Red Raiders again used late-inning offense to grab the 8-7 win against North Texas (6-6) on Saturday night.
Â
Texas Tech (11-3) again got behind early as North Texas used two two-run homers to fuel an early 6-0 lead through two innings.
Â
Tech responded with a run in the top of the third thanks to an Arriana Villa single.
Â
The score remained 6-1 until the fifth inning when Riley Love launched a two-run homer – her third of the season – to cut into the Mean Green's lead.
Â
Then, in matching with the theme of the day, Tech put up five runs in the sixth inning.
Â
In a bit of déjà vu, Raegan Jennings led-off the inning and drew a walk. Maddy Wright singled through the right side which gave Tech runners on the corners with no outs.
Â
Logan Halleman loaded the bases after she reached on an error. Aubrey Barnhart drove in Jennings with a sharp single to right field to make 6-4 and keep the bases loaded with no outs.
Â
Love got her third and fourth RBIs of the night after ripping a double down the right-field line to tie the game at six.
Â
With two outs, Kailey Wyckoff delivered the finishing touch as she poked a single down the left-field line to bring in the eventual winning runs.
Â
North Texas scored on a homer in the bottom of the sixth, but Maddie Kuehl came in in the seventh inning and got the final three outs and in the process recorded her second save of the season.
