LUBBOCK, Texas – Coming off another undefeated week on the road, Tech comes home to the McLeod Tennis Complex to play the No. 46 BYU Cougars on Saturday, March 23 at 11 a.m.
The No. 28 Texas Tech Lady Raiders (12-5, 5-1 Big 12) continued their scorching start to conference play with their second 4-3 win over now No. 50-ranked Kansas Jayhawks and a 4-0 walloping of the Iowa State Cyclones. The win over the Jayhawks marks the first time since 2019 that the Lady Raiders have won two matches over a single opponent in the same season when they defeated Oklahoma in the regular season and at the Big 12 Championship event. In addition, with their 12th win of the year, head coach Adam Herendeen has already achieved the second-highest number of wins through a Texas Tech coach's first two seasons with 26 since Mickey Bowes' 31 in the 1980-81 season.
Mariya Polischuk had a big week for the Lady Raiders where she went undefeated. The senior from Moscow, Russia started off the week by winning the clinching point against the Jayhawks in a thrilling 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (6) win over Maria Titova to capture Tech's fourth Big 12 win. Then against Iowa State, Polischuk dominated in straight-set fashion, 6-2, 6-1, to clinch the win once again over the Cyclones. With her two wins, she and Avelina Sayfetdinova are the first Lady Raiders to hit the 10-win dual singles mark on the campaign with No. 55-ranked Cristina Tiglea not far behind with nine of her own.
The Lady Raiders' doubles effort continues to be dominant six matches into Big 12 play. Tech was able to add another two doubles points during the week to bring their total doubles points won to 13 on the year. The tandem of Tiglea and Polishchuk continue to keep pace with the No. 6-ranked pairing of Metka Komac and Sayfetdinova with each having 12 dual wins on the year. The sixth-ranked tandem also captured their 20th overall doubles win, tied for third best nationally with Pepperdine's No. 2-ranked pairing in the ITA top-25.
