Texas Tech set for NCAA Indoor Championships

Jacob Mechler starts the meet for Tech in the weight throw Thursday night
BOSTON – The Texas Tech men's and women's track and field teams start the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships this week (Mar. 7-9) beginning with Jacob Mechler in the weight throw Thursday evening at 5 p.m. CT.

The men's team head into the championships as a favorite to win it all as the Red Raiders have been the No. 1 team in the country for all but two weeks this season – they enter No. 2 this weekend. As far as the women's team goes, Tech comes into Boston as the No. 8 team in the country, reaching as high as No. 5 during the regular season.

The Texas Tech men enter the meet with the second-most chances to score (13) behind No. 1 Arkansas who boasts 14. In the 60m alone, the Red Raiders have five sprinters, by far the most of any school, highlighted by 2023 national champion Jones.
In 2023, Dean was the national runner-up in the 60m hurdles, while Andrews placed sixth.
Mechler comes in as the 12-ranked thrower in the field, thanks to his PB toss of 22.68m (74-5) at the Big 12 Indoor Championships where he took second.
In the horizontal jumps, Lamane is a two-time First Team All-American indoors, placing third in 2021 and fourth in 2022. She did not compete at the meet last year as she sat out the indoor season due to a back injury. For Foster-Katta, this will be her second-straight meet as she placed fifth in 2023.
Chukwuma will be doubling (60m and 200m) for the second-straight season and is looking to make her first finals appearance.
