April 13, 2024 | Men's Golf
PHOENIX — With a final 54-hole card of 2-under-par 850, the No. 10 Texas Tech men's golf team concluded its regular season on Saturday with a ninth-place finish at the Thunderbird Collegiate, hosted at the par-71 Papago Golf Course. The host, Arizona State, repeated as tournament champions after scoring a 38-under-par 814 for the week, while ASU's Preston Summerhays also repeated as the top medalist at 12-under-par 201.
The Red Raiders capped their week in the desert with a second-straight round of 1-under-par 283, which was largely powered by an impressive round three from Matthew Comegys. The sophomore fired a 4-under-par 67, his lowest round since round two of the Cabo Collegiate in early March. Comegys ended his week with a team-best 3-under-par, which gave him his sixth top-20 finish of the season as he tied for 14th place among the 96 players in action.
Following Comegys on the Red Raider leaderboard were Baard Skogen and Calum Scott, who both posted 1-over-par 72s in round three and finished in a tie for 27th with a final card of even-par 213. Fellow Red Raider Vicente Marzilio, who competed as an individual, joined the duo in that placement after finishing round three even-par as well.Â
One shot behind his teammates was Charlie DeLong, who had a consistent 70-72-72 performance ending his week tied for 33rd at 1-over-par, his best finish when placed in the five-player team lineup this spring.
The Red Raiders look forward to postseason play next, starting on April 22 with the Big 12 Championship at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas.
