
Dumez continues to lead Tech at Big 12 Championship

Four Red Raiders shoot 74 or better as Tech sits tied for seventh place following the second round of the Big 12 Championship at Houston Oaks Country Club.
HOCKLEY, Texas – The Texas Tech women's golf team continued the Big 12 Championship on Friday, with round two contested at Houston Oaks Country Club. The Red Raiders recorded an 11-over-par 295 in the second round, putting the team tied for seventh place at 20-over-par entering Saturday's third and final round.
Tech was once again led by Gala Dumez, who closed her round with a birdie at hole No. 18 to finish with a 2-over-par 73. Dumez, the 2021 individual Big 12 champion, sits tied for 11th place after 36 holes at 2-over-par coupled with the even-par 71 she opened with on Thursday. The senior from France is seeking the third Big 12 Championship top-10 finish of her career in Saturday's final round.
Texas Tech also received solid performances from Klara Hurtova, Lauren Zaretsky and Maja Ambroziak, which also rounded out the Red Raiders' countable scores. The trio each recorded a 3-over-par 74 in round two.
Hurtova battled back from a quadruple bogey on her round two scorecard, having the setback on the sixth hole. Using three of her five birdies on Friday during the front nine, she finished 2-over on the front half before finishing the day 3-over, Hurtova is 4-over-par and tied for 19th place entering round three. Her tournament total of 11 birdies through the first two rounds is the second most of any player in the field of 65.Â
Zaretsky's second-round display was extremely consistent. The sophomore concluded her round on Friday with a total of 15 pars, which held lead to her 3-over 74. She is tied for 25th entering the third round at 5-over-par. After a difficult opening round on Thursday, Ambroziak answered her 6-over 78 on Thursday by starting and finishing her second round with birdies at hole no. 1 and no. 18 to help toward her 3-over 74. She improved to 46th place on the individual leaderboard.
Following round two, No. 11 Texas once again sits atop the team standings at 1-over-par after firing a 1-under-par 283 on Friday.
The Red Raiders will look to climb the leaderboard on Saturday as the Big 12 Women's Championship concludes with round three at Houston Oaks Country Club. Tee times will be staggered between 8 a.m. and 10:40 a.m. CT.
