Trio of Red Raiders earn All-Big 12 honors
May 02, 2024 | Men's Tennis
LUBBOCK, Texas – A trio of Red Raiders were honored with Big 12 awards after leading Tech to a 7-4 season at home.
For the second time in his career, Olle Wallin earned Big 12 honors being named to the All-Big 12 Second Team for singles. At the No. 1 singles position for Tech, the Sweden native was second on the team in overall singles wins and led the Red Raiders in dual singles wins with 12 and 10, respectively, on the season.
He was responsible for a trio of ranked singles wins on the year including over then-No. 93 Arda Azkara, 7-5, 6-4, of New Mexico and a straight-set victory over Big 12 Player of the Year and No. 1-ranked Eliot Spirzzirri, 7-6 (6), 6-4. Due to his efforts during his senior year, he was awarded a berth in the NCAA Men's Singles Championships for the second-straight year.
The doubles pairing of Piotr Pawlak and Sebastian Abboud claimed an All-Big 12 Second Team honor for doubles, the first Big 12 honor for Abboud and the second for Pawlak after winning the Big 12 Position Champion at No. 2 Doubles during the 2023 season. As the Red Raiders' leading duo in doubles, the pair earned an astounding 13 wins in dual matches, just over twice as many as the next leading pair.
Pawlak and Abboud split time across all three courts during their doubles tenure together this season with a 9-3, 3-0 and 1-0 record across the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 courts, respectively, and was one win away from earning position champion honors in the conference. The tandem also captured a pair of ranked wins over UTSA's then-No. 27-ranked Alan Magadan and Tomas Pinho as well as the No. 52-ranked pair of Pierce Rollins and Timothy Seger of Tulsa.
