Robinson and Green selected on Day 3 of MLB Draft

The Red Raider right-hander was selected with the first pick of the 11th Round, while Green was selected in the 14th Round
ARLINGTON – After seeing Kevin Bazzell and Cade McGee drafted during Monday's third and ninth rounds, Texas Tech Baseball saw two more players drafted on Tuesday.

Kyle Robinson was the first player off the board on Tuesday when he was drafted with the first selection of the 11th Round (No. 316) by the Oakland Athletics, while INF/OF Austin Green was nabbed in the 14th Round (No. 421) by the New York Yankees during the third and final day of the 2024 MLB Draft hosted in Arlington.

A former USA Baseball CNT selection and 2024 All-Big 12 Honorable Mention, Robinson pitched to a 5.09 ERA in 2024, going 4-7 with 79 strikeouts in 76 innings. Assuming the Friday night role for most of the season, Robinson recorded six starts of at least six innings pitched and had at least six strikeouts in six starts including an 11-punchout performance against Oklahoma State.

Robinson allowed two runs or fewer in nine of his 14 starts, including a career-best seven shutout innings in the Red Raiders sweep-clinching victory over No. 22 West Virginia. After the strong performance against the Mountaineers, Robinson was named the College Baseball Foundations' Player of the Week (Apr. 22).

The Red Raiders fourth and final draftee of the week, Green, was taken with the 421st overall selection or the 16th selection of the 14th Round. A native of New Diana, Green appeared in 110 games over his Red Raider career making 105 total starts.

A career .304 hitter, Green had a strong year in 2024, hitting .322 with eight home runs and 45 RBIs. Green scored 44 runs and recorded an OPS of .981. Â Green also added 13 doubles, a triple and struck out just 21 times in 174 at-bats. For his career, Green hit 20 home runs with 102 RBIs. Â

A two-time Big 12 Player of the Week, Green was tabbed the leagues' Player of the Week  after going 10-for-20 (.500) with four doubles, a pair of home runs and 10 RBIs against a pair of nationally-ranked opponents.

In the Red Raiders first game against No. 2 Arkansas, Green went 5-for-5 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored. Green finished the contest against the Razorbacks a triple shy of the cycle.

Green continued his strong week with a five RBI performance that included a grand slam against the 22nd-ranked Mountaineers.
The infielder turned outfielder had 13 contests this season with multiple RBIs including the five RBI performance against the Mountaineers and a three RBI performance against No. 24 Texas in the Red Raiders 6-4 win at the Big 12 Tournament over the Longhorns. Green's three RBIs came on a game-tying three-run home run in the fifth inning of the contest against UT.

With the selections of Bazzell (Washington Nationals) and McGee (St. Louis Cardinals) yesterday, as well as the two draftees today, Tech saw four players drafted for the eighth time in the last 10 drafts.
