September 10, 2024 | Men's Golf
TOLEDO, Ohio – The No. 4 Texas Tech men's golf team secured a top 5 finish at the 2024 Inverness Intercollegiate on Tuesday, carding a final round 4-over-par 280 team score. The Red Raiders entered the loaded 14-team Inverness Intercollegiate field as one of five nationally-ranked top 10 teams as ranked by the Golf Channel – those five teams finished one through five on the final leaderboard.
Tim Wiedemeyer, who was one of 10 golfers to finish the 54-hole tournament under par, was the Red Raiders leader in their first tournament of the 2024-25 season. The sophomore followed his 3-under-par 66 in Monday's second round with another 66 in Tuesday's finale to finish fifth overall with a 4-under-par 203 across the two-day tournament. Wiedemeyer opened and closed his Tuesday with birdies on holes 1 and 18. He was bogey-free with three birdies over the first 15 holes before his only bogey in the final round on the 451-yard Par 4, 16th hole.
Sophomore Ben Gregg also found himself in the top 10 after round three, finishing in a tie for seventh. Gregg, who competed as an individual, also recorded a 3-under-par 66 in round three and had a similar final-round scoreboard as his teammate Wiedemeyer. Gregg was bogey-free on the front nine and had one bogey on his scorecard on the back nine. Gregg's final 54-hole score, 2-under-par 205, found him finishing first among the group of 15 competing as individuals.
Freshman Connor Graham had a strong start to his collegiate career with the Red Raiders by finishing in the top 15. Graham finished round three with a 2-over-par 71; he finished 1-over-par (208) in the tournament and tied for 12th place.
The Red Raider will tee off their next event at the OFCC/Fighting Illini Invitational, at Olympia Fields Country Club, Sept. 20-22.
