Four Red Raiders travel to Midland for first tournament of the fall

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech men's tennis team opens its fall season at the Racquet Club UTR Collegiate Invitational on September 6-8 as four players will head to Midland, Texas for the tournament.
The four Red Raiders – Niksa Arsic, Brody Nejedly-Krall, Lorenzo Esquici and Tyler Stewart – will travel to Midland this weekend to compete in the first tournament of the season. The Red Raiders are coming off a 2024 season that resulted in nine wins, with six players returning to the roster from last year.
Stewart will make his season debut as he returns to his hometown this Friday after being sidelined last spring due to an injury. Prior to his injury last spring, Stewart was one of the four players from Texas Tech to earn a ranked victory in singles and doubles.
Texas Tech freshman and newcomer, Nejedly-Krall will make his collegiate debut this Friday. Nejedly-Krall is a five-star recruit from Rancho Mirage, Calif., who finished this last year with 30 singles victories, 16 of them recorded against other five-star recruits and seven of them recorded against four-star recruits. Nejedly-Krall was ranked No. 11 in the state of California and No. 55 in the nation.
At the Racquet Club UTR Collegiate Invitational, the Red Raiders will face some of the top collegiate talent in the nation. There are six nationally-ranked individuals in this tournament with local schools making an appearance as well this weekend such as Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
In singles, Arsic and Stewart get things started tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. against Arkansas' Benedikt Emesz and LSU's Brock Anderson, respectively. Esquici follows at 10 a.m. against Oklahoma's Asahi Harazaki while Nejedly-Krall will face No. 124-ranked Lucas Brown of Texas at 10:30 a.m.Â
In doubles, Arsic and Nejedly-Krall are competing in the first round against Texas' Brown and Evan Burnett at 5 p.m. on Friday. Brown is currently ranked with teammate Sebastian Gorzny at No. 31 in the ITA doubles rankings. Competing at the same time is duo Esquici and Stewart against Boise State's Idriss Haddouch and Adam Duda.
