Horn Frogs win 3-0 over Tech on Saturday
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech (8-8, 0-4) dropped its match to No. 12 TCU (13-3, 3-1) on Saturday afternoon by a score of 3-0 as the Horned Frogs used a hitting percentage of over .300 to power their way to a win.
Addie Kanouff led the team with nine kills while hitting .500 on 14 attempts. Katelyn Cochran finished with 12 assists as Sierra Grizzle ended the match with 11 digs to round out the team leaders.
Taylor Bahnub had an efficient outing, going for five kills while hitting .364 and getting in on a pair of blocks. Jasmine Martin led the team with four blocks as Kalli Jioshvili Ravva and Ashlyn Bellamy combined for nine kills.
TCU was led by Evan Hendrix and Becca Kelley who combined for 26 kills as Kelley hit an impressive .688 to lead all hitters.
How it Happened:
TCU's No. 12 ranking lived up to its mark as the Horned Frogs did a good job of playing their game early. The Red Raiders made it close with a 4-0 run to cut into TCU's lead at 12-7 and made another push late thanks to three-straight kills from the swing of Kanouff. Defense was at a premium as neither team hit over .150 in the set, but TCU was able to take the first set 25-16.
The Red Raiders made some good adjustments in between sets as they jumped out to an early 5-0 lead thanks to some TCU errors and Engler's serving. The Horned Frogs quickly rallied back to tie the set at 6-6 after a successful challenge. Both teams had a tough time controlling the service line, however, as the set featured back-to-back errors on serves from either team. TCU took a 2-0 lead after winning the set 25-15 thanks to a .440 hitting percentage.
Tech again took an early lead, going up 5-2 before TCU tied it up at 7-7. TCU followed up its strong hitting percentage in set two with an equally impressive performance in the third set, hitting .350 as they closed out the match with a 25-19 win as they completed the sweep.
UP NEXT: The Red Raiders are again on the road as they play Kansas and Kansas State on Wednesday and Friday of next week.
