Tech earns No. 6 seed; to host to UTSA Friday

The Red Raiders earned their third-straight NCAA bid and 10th overall
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech Soccer earned a sixth-seed in the 2025 NCAA Soccer Championship the NCAA Soccer Selection Committee announced Monday.
As a result of earning one of the 32-national seeds the Red Raiders will play host to UTSA on Friday night at 6 p.m. at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
Texas Tech and UTSA last met in 2021, a 3-0 win at the John Walker Soccer Complex for Texas Tech.
The Red Raiders are 2-0-0 all-time against the Roadrunners and have won the two matchups by a combined 7-0 scoreline.
UTSA earned its bid into this year's field by defeating UAB (2-1), Memphis (3-3, 3-1 in PKs) and defeating Rice (1-0) in overtime in the American Conference Championship.
Hosting a first round match for third-straight season, the Red Raiders are 7-0-0 all-time in home NCAA Tournament First Round matchups and have advanced in nine of the 10 all-time matchups at home in the NCAA Tournament (7-1-2). The lone loss in the 10 home NCAA matches was the 2023 Round of 16 matchup against UNC. Tech has won both all-time "draws" advancing past Pepperdine and Princeton by 4-3 margins in PKs.
If victorious over UTSA on Friday night, the Red Raiders would advance to the NCAA Round of 32 for the third-straight season and would face the winner of No. 3 Tennessee and North Carolina next Thursday (Nov. 20).
The Red Raiders are paired with No. 2 TCU, Grambling, No. 7 Memphis, Illinois, No. 3 Tennessee and UNC. TCU welcomes Grambling on Friday night, while Memphis and Illinois meet on Saturday night in Memphis. The Tech/USTA winner will meet the Tennessee/UNC winner while the two winners between TCU/Grambling and Memphis/Illinois will also face off in the Round of 32.
