November 10, 2025 | Women's Tennis
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Lady Raiders capped off a standout fall season with strong showings at both the ITA Central Sectional Championships and the UNF Invitational, as Yekaterina Dmitrichenko, Hailey Murphy, Mariia Hlahola and Elena Daskalova represented the Lady Raiders in the two competitions over the weekend.
Â
The Lady Raider duo of Murphy and Dmitrichenko made program history with a standout performance at the ITA Central Sectional Championships, becoming the first doubles team to win sectionals, earning co-championship honors and qualifying for the NCAA Doubles Championships in the process. This is the third-straight season Tech sent a doubles pair to the NCAA Individual Championships and the first time in program history to do so in three-consecutive years.
Â
Murphy and Dmitrichenko opened the tournament with a win over Houston's Sophie Schouten and Chams Doha Zeghlouli, 6-3, 7-6 (3), before pulling off a major upset against the No. 20-ranked Kansas duo of Heike Janse Van Vuuren and Kyoka Kubo, 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (2). After dropping the opening set 4-6, the Lady Raider duo fought back to take the second 6-3 and the match tiebreak, 10-2, in their most impressive win of the weekend. They capped off their doubles run of the tournament with a, 6-2, 6-2, sweep of TCU's Yu-Chin Tsai and Victoria Gomez O'Hayon, clinching their spot as co-champions in doubles and punching their ticket to the NCAA Doubles Championships.
Â
In singles play, No. 76 Dmitrichenko continued the tournament with a ranked win over No. 31 Emily Sartz-Lunda (Michigan), 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, before narrowly falling to No. 71 Daianne Hayashida (Iowa) in another three-set battle. Murphy also shone individually, defeating Oklahoma's Chloe Noel, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, and adding a ranked win over No. 64 Daria Smetannikov (TAMU), 6-2, 7-5, before dropping a close match against No. 103 Kyoka Kubo (Kansas), 7-6 (4), 6-3.
Â
Meanwhile, at the UNF Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla., Hlahola and Daskalova also delivered an impressive showing. The duo opened doubles play with a loss against Charlotte duo Shona Nakano and Andrea Chacon, 6-4, but responded with a 7-6 (5) victory over Florida State's Tina Li and Laura Putz. Daskalova went on to record dominant wins over Li from Florida State, 6-2, 6-1, and Arina Gamretkai of Virginia Tech, 6-3, 6-3, before narrowly dropping a close match against UCF's Laurn Seye, 6-3, 7-6 (2). Hlahola added a straight-set win over Charlotte Ruud of USF, 6-3, 7-5, and battled hard in a three-set loss to UNC's Sara Suchankova, 1-6, 6-0, 6-2.
