November 02, 2025 | Women's Basketball
LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders open their season with a game against the North Carolina A&T Aggies on Monday, Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. in the United Supermarkets Arena. This contest marks the first meeting between both teams.
Texas Tech is one of the most experienced teams in the country - totaling 831 games played and 18,204 minutes played among the players. The Lady Raiders, who boast 11 upperclassmen and nine seniors out of 12 on the roster, are only second among Power 4 schools in total minutes played and games played with TCU leading with 906 games and 19,930 minutes played. Texas Tech is ahead of the third-ranked P4 team in Clemson by over 1,000 minutes as the Tigers tally 17,734. SMU, a team Tech faces on Nov. 13, is third in games played with 810.
Senior Bailey Maupin has been a consistent offensive force for Texas Tech in her three seasons. Last year, she scored a caÂreer-best 505 points while adding 158 field goals, 47 threes, 142 free throws, 82 assists (team best) and 40 steals. Maupin ranked 50th nationally in free throws made and 38th in free throws atÂtempted with 142. She also shot 81.1 percent from the line. In the program, Maupin currently ranks 18th in career points (1,307), fifth in career free throws made (357), ninth in career free throw attempts (429) and fifth in career free throw percentage (.832). Maupin needs 134 free throws to rank second all-time, 462 points to rank fourth all-time and 48 3-pointers to rank sixth all-time.
Maupin is one of 64 women's basketball stuÂdent-athletes to be selected as a 2025-26 Kay Yow Servant Leader. This is a prestigious award that honors student-athÂletes who exemplify the values of leadership, selflessness and service. Only four student-athletes in the Big 12 were selected in Maupin, Ella Brow (Baylor), Hattie Ogden (BYU) and Achol Akot (Oklahoma State). Award winners are distinguished by a patch they wear on their jerseys during the season.
In her junior season at Campbell, senior Gemma Núñez led the team with 217 assists and finished the season ranked fourth nationally in total assists as well as eighth nationally in assists per game with 6.2. In addition, she ranked 58th in the country with 73 steals. Over her career, Núñez recorded 34 games with five or more assists, four games with douÂble-digit assists and led the team in assists in 54 games.
During Núñez's career at Campbell, the Camels faced the North Carolina A&T Aggies twice while competÂing in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA). In those two games against NC A&T, Núñez totaled an average of 37 minutes played and recorded a .450 field goal percentage (9-for-20), 18 rebounds, 23 points and 10 assists. In her last game against the Aggies on Feb. 9, 2025, she posted a double-double with 10 boards and 16 points.
Senior Sarengbe Sanogo led the way in blocks last season for Texas Tech with 53, the most by a Lady Raiders since Brittany Brewer's 127 in the 2019-20 season. Sarengbe led the team in blocks 20 times last year and had 15 games with two or more blocks recorded, with a career-high of six against ACU on Nov. 19, 2024. Her sister, Mariam, played at Canisius last year and also held a team-best in blocks with 21 while leading the Purple EaÂgles in blocks for 16 games.
Senior Jada Malone, a transfer out of Texas A&M, has one of the best shooting percentages in the nation. Over her career, Malone has shot 56 percent from the field, going 202-for-361 in the process. She posted a season-best field goal percentage last year at .626 (107-171) and just missed the cutoff in field goals made to rank nationally in the category.
The Lady Raiders were chosen to represent Team USA, alongside the Baylor men's basketball team, at the 2025 FISU World University Games in Germany this summer. At the games, Team USA picked up wins over Germany and Chinese Taipei in group play to advance to the top-8 seeds vying for a medal. Tech then took down Finland and Hungary to play for the gold medal. In the finals, the Lady Raiders fell to defending champions, China, 81-69 to bring home the silver medal.
