Harrington, Rodriguez tabbed Big 12 Players of the Week
November 03, 2025 | Football
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech senior linebacker Jacob Rodriguez was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, while kicker Stone Harrington earned Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week honors, the conference announced Monday. It marks the second time this season that both players have received the respective awards.
Rodriguez previously earned the defensive honor following Tech's trip to Utah, while Harrington was recognized after the Red Raiders' game at Houston.
Rodriguez continued to showcase his dominance Saturday, forcing two key fumbles in Tech's 43-20 win at Kansas State. The Red Raiders recovered both turnovers, which led to touchdown drives that gave them a 9-7 lead in the second quarter and a 19-7 advantage early in the third. His two forced fumbles were part of five total takeaways for Tech, the program's most since matching that number in the 2022 Texas Bowl win over Ole Miss.
Rodriguez now leads the FBS with seven forced fumbles, becoming just the fourth Big 12 player ever to reach that total in a season — and the first since former Red Raider Dwayne Slay in 2005. He also recorded five tackles against the Wildcats and remains the highest-graded linebacker in the nation, according to Pro Football Focus. Rodriguez ranks as the second-highest graded defensive player overall, anchoring a Texas Tech defense that leads the Big 12 and ranks top-10 nationally in both total defense (271.3 yards per game) and scoring defense (13.2 points per game).
Harrington also delivered a record-setting performance in Manhattan, becoming the first player in program history to make multiple field goals of 55 yards or longer in a single season. He went 3-for-3 on field goals, connecting from 29 yards twice and from 55 yards as time expired in the first half to give Tech a 12-7 lead. He added another field goal midway through the third quarter to extend the advantage to eight points.
Earlier this season, Harrington drilled a 58-yard field goal at Utah, making him the only Big 12 kicker — and one of just four nationally — with multiple field goals of 55 yards or more this year. Harrington is now 11-for-14 on field goal attempts this season and recorded seven touchbacks on eight kickoffs against Kansas State.
Texas Tech returns home Saturday to host BYU at 11 a.m. to open a two-game homestand. The Red Raiders will close their regular-season home slate Nov. 15 at 2:30 p.m.
