Texas Tech will host Kansas on Oct. 11 in its Big 12 home opener, the first of four conference home dates
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech's 2025 football schedule was finalized Tuesday with the release of the full Big 12 Conference slate, which features the Red Raiders opening league play Sept. 20 at Utah before hosting Kansas on Oct. 11 in the first of four conference home dates.
Below is a week-by-week breakdown of the Red Raiders' 2025 schedule.
Aug. 30 vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff – Texas Tech will host the Golden Lions for the first time in history to kick off the first of three-consecutive weekends at home. Arkansas-Pine Bluff will also serve as Texas Tech's season opener to start the 2027 campaign.
Sept. 6 vs. Kent State – Another first-time matchup for the Red Raiders, who will be facing a current school from the Mid-American Conference (MAC) for only the second time in history. Texas Tech last faced a MAC opponent in the 1948 Sun Bowl when the Red Raiders narrowly fell, 13-12, to Miami (Ohio).
Sept. 13 vs. Oregon State – Texas Tech will wrap three-straight weeks at home with the start of a home-and-home non-conference series versus the Beavers. This will be only the second meeting all-time between the two schools as the Red Raiders previously edged Oregon State, 15-14, at home early in the 1959 season.
Sept. 20 at Utah – The Red Raiders will face the Utes for the first time as Big 12 Conference foes to open league play. It will be Texas Tech's first visit to Salt Lake City as the Red Raiders topped Utah at home in the only two other meetings all-time, which came during the 1972-73 seasons. Texas Tech previously played its first-ever game in the state of Utah during the 2023 season with its trip to BYU.

Oct. 4 at Houston – The Red Raiders will make their first trip to face the Cougars on the road as league foes since their time together in the Southwest Conference. Texas Tech is no stranger to the city of Houston as the Red Raiders have visited the Space City five times since 2015 alone, including for two Texas Bowl appearances. The Red Raiders faced Houston at its on-campus facility, TDECU Stadium, only once all-time in the series, which came in 2017 when Texas Tech hung on for a 27-24 victory as part of a non-conference agreement between the two schools. Houston leads the all-time series at 18-16-1 overall despite dropping each of the past six contests to the Red Raiders.
Oct. 11 vs. Kansas – The Jayhawks will serve as Texas Tech's conference home opener for the fifth time in history and the first time since 2016 as the Red Raiders are previously 3-1 in those games. The Red Raiders are 23-2 all-time against Kansas with wins in each of the last four meetings. The two schools did not meet during the 2024 season as part of the Big 12's new four-year scheduling matrix (2024-27), breaking a 13-year streak in the series.
Oct. 18 at Arizona State – Texas Tech's win over Arizona State to kick off Big 12 play this past season did not seem at the time to be monumental but proved to be just that as the Sun Devils went on to play in the College Football Playoff. The victory improved the Red Raiders to 3-2 all-time in the series with Arizona State as the two schools are slated to face each other three times as part of the Big 12's four-year scheduling matrix. The Red Raiders are 0-2 all-time in Tempe with losses in the 1999 season opener and then again early in the 2016 campaign.
Oct. 25 vs. Oklahoma State – The Red Raiders will welcome the Cowboys back to Lubbock for the first time since the 2021 season as the last two meetings between the two Big 12 founding members have come in Stillwater. Texas Tech topped Oklahoma State, 56-48, this past season to tie the all-time series at 24-24-3 overall, which includes a 13-8-2 record at home. The two schools have split the past six meetings with the Red Raiders topping Oklahoma State during the 2018-19 seasons as well as this past year in Stillwater.

Nov. 1 at Kansas State – The Red Raiders will be looking to snap their recent bad luck against the Wildcats, who have won eight-consecutive games in the series. This will only be Texas Tech's second trip to the Little Apple during the month of November as Kansas State last hosted the Red Raiders this late in the season back in 2018, which was played two weeks later on the calendar on Nov. 17. The Red Raiders will also be searching for their first win in Manhattan since 2008 as Kansas State has won six-straight games at home.
Nov. 8 vs. BYU – The Red Raiders will welcome the Cougars for the first time as a Big 12 foe to kick off back-to-back home games versus BYU and then UCF. This will be the third all-time meeting between the two schools and the second as Big 12 members. BYU hosted the Red Raiders in its first season in the league in 2023, topping the Red Raiders, 27-14, in Provo. The only other meeting between the two schools came in the 1940 season when Texas Tech edged BYU, 21-20, at home.
Nov. 15 vs. UCF – This will be only the second all-time meeting against the Knights, who visited Lubbock during their first season as a Big 12 member in 2023. The Red Raiders downed UCF, 24-23, behind a late blocked PAT from E'Maurion Banks in that game to become bowl eligible in Joey McGuire's second season. Texas Tech will not make its first trip to Orlando until the 2027 season.
Nov. 29 at West Virginia – The Red Raiders will spend Thanksgiving weekend in the hills of West Virginia for the first time in program history. This will be the second-consecutive year the two schools have wrapped the regular season against each other as Texas Tech routed West Virginia, 52-15, in Lubbock. The victory evened the series at 7-7 for the Red Raiders, who will be playing the furthest north on the map on Thanksgiving weekend in school history. The only other two times Texas Tech has traveled north of the state of Oklahoma to close the regular season came in a 1941 road win at Wake Forest and a 1940 victory at San Francisco.

SCHEDULE NOTES
- Texas Tech kicks off its season with three-consecutive games at home for the first time since 2005. The three home non-conference games are part of Texas Tech's strategy to host at least seven games annually at Jones AT&T Stadium.
- The Red Raiders will open Big 12 play with back-to-back road games for only the fifth time in history and the first time since 2021. Texas Tech also went on the road for consecutive games to start its Big 12 schedule in 2002, 2004 and 2014.
- Texas Tech will play eight of its 12 games in the state of Texas as its seven home dates are paired with an Oct. 4 road trip to Houston.
- Texas Tech will once again have two open dates on the 2025 schedule as the Red Raiders will be off on Sept. 27 in between its trips to Utah and Houston as well as Nov. 22 following its home finale against UCF.
- Texas Tech will have an open date prior to its road trip to Houston in week four of the regular season. The Cougars, meanwhile, will travel to Oregon State in a non-conference game that same weekend. Texas Tech and West Virginia both share an open date on the schedule prior to their matchup to close the regular season. The only other opponent to have an open date prior to facing the Red Raiders is BYU.
TELEVISION AND GAME TIME SELECTIONS
The Big 12 schedule follows a non-conference slate that features three-consecutive home dates against Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Aug. 30), Kent State (Sept. 6) and Oregon State (Sept. 13). Game times and television designations for Texas Tech's non-conference slate will be announced this summer with each of its Big 12 contests falling under either a 6-day or 12-day window.
