Toppin sweeps final Big 12 weekly awards

LUBBOCK – Texas Tech sophomore JT Toppin has swept the Big 12 weekly awards for the second time this season after recording a pair of dominating performances in the final two games of the regular season. Toppin was named the Big 12 Player of the Week and Big 12 Newcomer of the Week following a pair of double-doubles in the final week of the regular season, averaging 27.5 points and 12.5 rebounds in a pair of wins.
For the season, Toppin earned two Big 12 Player of the Week honors and was a four-time Big 12 Newcomer of the Week selection.
Toppin began the final week of the regular season by going off for 30 points and 14 rebounds in the home finale against Colorado before posting 25 points and 11 rebounds in a road win at Arizona State on Saturday. Toppin, who now has three games of 30-plus and 14 double-doubles for the season, was 10-for-17 from the field against the Buffaloes before making 10-of-19 shots in Tempe. Along with his routine production, he also had a career-high four assists and three blocked shots against the Sun Devils. He is now averaging 18.1 points and 9.3 rebounds going into the postseason.
The Red Raiders (24-7, 15-5 Big 12) finished second in the Big 12 standings and will open the 2025 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship at 6 p.m. on Thursday with a quarterfinal matchup against either Arizona State, Kansas State or Baylor. Tech earned a double-bye to automatically advance to the third day of the five-day tournament. The Big 12 Championship Final is set for 5 p.m. on Saturday at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
