March 06, 2025 | Women's Tennis
SALT LAKE CITY – After winning five first sets in singles and the doubles point, the No. 13 Texas Tech Lady Raiders earned a 4-1 road win over the Utah Utes at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center on Thursday evening.
Texas Tech (10-1, 3-0 Big 12) earned its 10th doubles point of the season with a couple doubles victories against Utah (5-7, 0-3 Big 12). First, the duo of Andreea Lila and Jermine Sherif got a win at court three over Samantha Harwood and Dylan Lolofie. The Lady Raiders went down 0-1 before rallying off three straight games for the 3-1 advantage. They would go on to win three of the next four games to take the match, 6-2.
The No. 5-ranked duo of Mariia Hlahola and Avelina Sayfetdinova clinched the point for the Lady Raiders at court one over Sara Akid and Emma Valletta. Going up 2-0, the Utes would come back to tie it at 2-all. Tech answered with the next two games before Utah once again tied it at 4-all. The Lady Raiders would clinch the point, though, with a 6-4 victory at the top court. When the point was won, both Yekaterina Dmitrichenko and Hailey Murphy were leading Emma Kamper and Hayley Roberts, 5-4, at court two before going unfinished.
Sherif continued her heroics into singles and remains undefeated in dual matches this year after dominating her match over Lolofie, winning in straight sets and only giving up one game, 6-1, 6-0. The Utes were able to get a point on the board with a 6-1, 6-1 win at court two. However, the Lady Raiders immediately got one back after Murphy defeated Roberts at court five. She would win in decisive fashion, only allowing Roberts three games in the match with a 6-1, 6-2 score to make it 3-1 in Tech's favor.
Clinching the match was Dmitrichenko at court three over Kaila Barksdale. In set one, the Lady Raider was down 1-2 before winning three consecutive games to make it 4-2. She would go on to claim the set, 6-3, for the lead over Barksdale. The second set was similar – as Dmitrichenko was down 1-2 before winning four-straight games. She then clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-3 victory and remains undefeated in dual singles matches on the season.
Up next, Texas Tech stays on the road to take on the BYU Cougars in Provo, Utah on Saturday at 11 a.m.
