No. 13 Lady Raiders leave Utah with two wins

PROVO, Utah – The No. 13-ranked Texas Tech Lady Raiders earned their second win in Utah this week after downing the No. 73 BYU Cougars, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon at the BYU Indoor Tennis Courts.
Texas Tech (11-1, 4-0 Big 12) began the day by winning the doubles point against BYU (11-6, 1-3 Big 12), the team's ninth consecutive doubles point won. First, Andreea Lila and Jermine Sherif took down Grace Levelston and Elizabeth Tullis at court three, 6-3. Then, the No. 5-ranked duo of Mariia Hlahola and Avelina Sayfetdinova clinched the point at court one against Bobo Huang and Sue Yan Tan by a 6-4 score.
In singles, BYU tied the match at 1-1 with a victory at court two. Following this, Lila got the come-from-behind win against Chelsea Bluestein at court four. The Lady Raider dropped the first set, 6-2, before rallying in the next two to win it by a 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 score.
Extending the lead to 3-1 was Sayfetdinova at court one against Levelston. Sayfetdinova forced a tiebreaker in set one, then dominated in it after winning by a score of 7-6 (1). She sealed the deal with a 6-4 second set to pick up her first conference singles win.
The Cougars added a three-set win at court four to make it 3-2, but that would be it for them after Hailey Murphy clinched the victory with a straight-set win at court five over Madison Smith. Murphy won the first set decisively, 6-2. Then, she took a 5-1 lead before the Cougar won two-straight games. Murphy was able to hold serve though to clinch the match with a 6-3 set two score.
Up next, Texas Tech stays on the road to play the No. 40 TCU Horned Frogs on Friday, March 14 at 5 p.m. in Fort Worth.
