
Hurtova earns Top 20 finish, leads Tech at Big 12 Championship

HOCKLEY, Texas – Texas Tech sophomore Klara Hurtova secured her second straight Top 20 finish at the Big 12 Women's Golf Championship on Thursday, shooting 7-over-par (72-74-74) throughout the 54-hole event at The Clubs at Houston Oaks. Hurtova led the Red Raiders with a tie for 19th place in the 2025 edition, one season removed from finishing tied for 11th during her freshman campaign.
Hurtova recorded the Red Raiders' lowest single-round score over the first two days of competition, Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, and was matched by teammate Danique Stokmans for the lowest score in Thursday's final round, 3-over-par 74.
In the final round, each of the five Red Raiders in action started their respective days on hole No. 10. Hurtova birdied the opening hole, then recorded four straight pars, before a setback on the Par 3, 15th hole, a triple bogey. She had three more pars to close out the back nine 2-over-par.
Hurtova opened the front nine with a par before a double bogey on No. 2. The sophomore finished the final seven holes of the championship 1-under-par with six pars and one birdie, closing her round 3-over (74), earning her team-leading sixth Top 20 finish of the 2024-25 season. Of the 73 players that saw action over the last three days, Hurtova ranked second among all of them in pars, finishing with 40.Â
Stokmans (3-over-par 74), Maja Ambroziak (4-over-par 75), and Kylee Loewe (5-over-par 76) contributed toward the Red Raiders' three other countable scores on Thursday, which resulted in Texas Tech's lowest round carded (15-over-par 299) during the tournament.Â
Utilizing its best round, Texas Tech moved up one position from the end of Wednesday's second round to finish the Big 12 Women's Golf Championship in 12th place at 51-over-par (301-303-299=903). Meanwhile, Arizona, Arizona State, and Oklahoma State finished in a three-way tie after 54 holes at 19-over-par (871) and advanced to a playoff. Arizona (20) won the playoff versus Arizona State (21) and Oklahoma State (22) to clinch the Big 12 Championship.
Each of the 14 Big 12 teams will now wait for the NCAA Selection Show on Wednesday, April 23, live on the Golf Channel at Noon CDT for the reveal of teams that will compete in the NCAA regional round. Texas Tech's Rawls Course will serve as one of the six sites to host regionals, May 5-7.
