The Red Raiders fell despite five one-run innings from Trendan Parish
TEMPE, Ariz. – Despite five one-run innings in relief by senior Trendan Parish, Texas Tech Baseball fell 10-4 to Arizona State on Thursday night at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
Down 3-0 early after losing starting pitcher Mac Heuer to injury, Texas Tech (11-22, 7-9 Big 12) used doubles from Garet Boehm, Tracer Lopez and Logan Hughes to tie the game at three-all in the top of the fourth. The three hits were the first three hits the Red Raiders managed off Arizona State's (24-14, 10-6) Ben Jacobs.
Jacobs was electric in his second-career start against the Red Raiders, as the lefty allowed just four hits and three runs in six stellar innings. He did not walk a batter and struck out 13 batters including the first seven Red Raiders he faced.
Heuer departed the game with one out in the second inning and three batters after being struck by a 111 MPH liner on his right hand.
The game remained 3-3 until the home half of the seventh, when a one-out walk from Parish, a swinging bunt and an RBI single from ASUs Isaiah Jackson snuck through the left-side for the go-ahead run.
Jackson was right in the middle of everything for the Sun Devils on Thursday night, as he went 3-for-4 with four runs batted in and two runs scored. It was Jackson, who gave ASU the 3-0 lead in the second on his sixth long ball of the season.
In the setback, Parish shined, needing just 57 pitches to turn his strongest outing of his 2025 season. Parish allowed just two hits and one run, recording nine of his 15 outs on the ground, four via the double play ball.
Entering with his Red Raiders down 3-0, Parish immediately settled the game down, as the righty retired the first eight batters he faced and 11 of the first 12.
The performance by Parish, kept the Red Raiders in the ballgame long enough for Tech to chase Jacobs.
With Jacobs out of the game, the Red Raiders got a two-out single from Kyeler Thompson and his 20th stolen base of the season to place the go-ahead run in scoring position with two outs, but ASUs Will Koger used one of the Sun Devils 17 punchouts on the night to strand Thompson and send the game to the bottom of the seventh, where the Sun Devils used the Jackson single and a delayed steal of home to take a 5-3 lead.
Looking to respond in the eighth, Tech used a one-out walk by Damian Bravo, a stolen base and an RBI single by Robin Villeneuve to pull to within 5-4, but ASU used a two-run homer by Matt King and a three-run bomb by Josiah Cromwick to seal the 10-4 victory.
