Raiders select Rogers in third round of NFL Draft
April 25, 2025 | Football
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech offensive lineman Caleb Rogers was selected in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft on Friday night by the Las Vegas Raiders. As the 98th overall pick in the draft, Rogers is the 10th Red Raider selected in the Top 100 of the NFL Draft since 2000.
"I loved his energy," said Raiders general manager John Spytek Friday night about what drew them to Rogers. "He's a high-passion guy who flies around the field, and anytime he got a chance to play football, he did. He told us a really cool story about the bowl game and wanting to play ... here's a guy going into his last game, going into the draft with a lot to lose as a day two pick. But to be there for your teammates, and the joy of loving to play football, was something that I really took to. You can see that in his playstyle, too."
The Raiders organization, with their seventh all-time Texas Tech selection, have favored Texas Tech in recent history as Rogers' selection marks the earliest a Red Raider has been chosen in the draft since soon-to-be teammate again, defensive end Tyree Wilson, was selected No. 7 overall by the Raiders in the 2023 Draft.Â
Â
Rogers, a two-time honorable mention All-Big 12 selection (2023-24), was a staple name for Texas Tech fans, having made 55 career starts over 61 career games since his true freshman year in the scarlet and black in 2020. He was selected to play in the Reese's Senior Bowl following his final season after anchoring the offensive line, starting in all 13 games in various roles, serving as guard when needed, from his traditional tackle spot, making him an ideal candidate with versatility for an NFL team.Â
Â
Rogers extended Texas Tech's streak of at least one Red Raider selected within the first four rounds to six straight drafts on Friday night. Rogers joins Taylor-Demerson, who was drafted last year in the fourth round by the Arizona Cardinals. Preceding Taylor-Demerson was first-round defensive end pick Wilson (Las Vegas Raiders) in 2023, wide receiver Erik Ezukanma (Miami Dolphins) in the fourth round in 2022, defensive back Zech McPhearson (Philadelphia Eagles) in the fourth round in 2021, and linebacker Jordyn Brooks (Seattle Seahawks), who began the streak in the first round in 2020.Â
Â
Rogers is the first Texas Tech offensive lineman to hear his named called in the draft since Dawson Deaton was picked in the seventh round (246 overall) of the 2022 draft by the Cleveland Browns, and is the first Red Raider offensive lineman drafted before the seventh round since Le'Raven Clark was drafted in the third round in 2016 by the Indianapolis Colts.
Â
Texas Tech will have the opportunity to add additional Red Raiders into the NFL ranks on Saturday as final day coverage begins at 11 a.m. for rounds 4-7. Coverage will be provided via NFL Network, ABC and ESPN.
