Tech takes down Utah 9-1 and 3-0 in Friday doubleheader
LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 14 Red Raiders (30-9, 10-1) clinched its fourth Big 12 series of the year with a 9-1 victory in game one followed by a 3-0 win in game two against Utah (12-26, 4-7).
NiJaree Canady picked up two wins to improve her record to 12-4 on the season. She threw 11.0 innings allowing just five hits and one run while striking out 14 over that stretch including a complete-game shutout in game two to secure the series. Canady also brought her ERA down to a 0.59 on the season and sits at 177 strikeouts.
Bailey Lindemuth, Mihyia Davis and Alexa Langeliers all left the yard. Langeliers home run was her eighth of the season – a team best – and Davis's homer tied her career high for home runs in a season.
The defense was excellent on a day that was windy and wet, recording no errors through 12 innings as Hailey Toney, Demi Elder, Langeliers, Davis and even Canady herself all made stellar plays in field.
