
Team USA to play for gold medal on Friday

ESSEN, Germany – Denae Fritz nailed a 3-pointer to tie the game with 30 seconds left, then Sidney Love scored two go-ahead free throws with three seconds left as Team USA defeated Hungary, 73-71, in the semifinals on Wednesday evening at Grugahalle Arena.
Out of the seven players to appear in the game, six recorded double figures led by both Jalynn Bristow and DeYona Gaston with 14 points each. Bristow went 4-for-8 (.500) from the field and 3-for-5 (.600) from behind the arc against Hungary. She also picked up her second double-double of the tournament with a team-high tying 11 rebounds. In addition, Gaston had her second double-double with 11 boards as well, while tallying two assists.
Three Team USA players scored 11 points in the game in Kalysta Martin, Adlee Blacklock and Love. Martin shot 44 percent from the field (4-for-9) with a team-best four assists. Blacklock went 4-for-8 from the field and added two steals and five rebounds against Hungary. Love shot 4-for-7 from the field (.571) and tallied three assists on the night. Fritz also recorded 10 points, three rebounds and two assists to cap off the game.
As a team, the Americans shot 40.6 percent from the field (24-for-59) and made six 3-pointers. They totaled 46 rebounds and 12 assists in the contest. Team USA also held Hungary to 32.9 percent from the field (26-for-79) and just 17.1 percent (6-for-35) from behind the arc.
Team USA is set to play for the gold medal against the People's Republic of China this Friday at 1 p.m. CT/8 p.m. CEST. Â
