Texas Tech ranked No. 24 in preseason coaches' poll

LUBBOCK, Texas – While Texas Tech was in the midst of its fifth fall training camp practice on Monday morning, the US LBM Coaches Poll revealed Texas Tech was voted No. 24 in its 2025 preseason poll. The Red Raiders last appeared in the coaches' preseason poll in 2023, also at No. 24 that year.
With the season opener less than four weeks away, set for Aug. 30 at 6:30 p.m., the Red Raiders will kick off the first of three consecutive home games in a year that continues to build with anticipation as its been among the most-discussed teams in college football for the past few months.
Earlier on Monday, a pair of its noteworthy transfers were named to Bruce Feldman's annual College Football Freaks List in David Bailey (No. 43) and Howard Sampson (No. 80), while Davion Carter (No. 88) was a third Red Raider tabbed to the list of 100 college football freaks. The recognition is part of an annual "Freaks List" series, which chronicles the strongest, fastest, and most physical players in college football.
The preseason AP poll is expected to be released next Monday, at 11 a.m. CT.

About the US LBM Coaches Poll
The US LBM Coaches Poll is conducted weekly throughout the regular season using a panel of head coaches at Football Bowl Subdivision schools. The panel is chosen by random draw, conference by conference, plus independents, from a pool of coaches who have indicated to the American Football Coaches Association their willingness to participate. Each coach submits a Top 25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second place 24, and so on down to one point for 25th.
