IRVING, Texas – After scoring her third career brace and nearly recording her first career hat trick, forward Taylor Zdrojewski has been named the Big 12s Co-Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
Zdrojewski's honor is her second of the season and marks the third time in four weeks that the Red Raiders have had at least one player of the week honoree.
A native from Celina, the forward nearly got the Red Raiders off to another strong start when in the 10th minute she buried a feed from Peyton Parsons before being called offsides.
As the match continued to wear on, the Red Raider striker did not get frustrated when her 32nd minute rising shot was punched away by the NMSU goalkeeper.
After the break, Zdrojewski ultimately found the back of the net just 16 seconds into the 70th minute when she skied for a perfect Macy Blackburn corner kick service and headed home the first goal of the night to give the Red Raiders the lead.
The goal was her third game-winner in the Red Raiders six matches thus far. That ranks sixth-most in the nation while her six goals in six games also ranks inside the top-10 (No. 8 overall).
Not resting on the one goal lead, Zdrojewski completed the brace seven minutes later when she once again buried a strong service from Blackburn to give the Red Raiders the commanding two-goal lead.
With her two goals on Thursday night, Zdrojewski also reached the 40-point mark in her career and now has scored 16 times in her last 28 games. She's also recorded six assists in that stretch.
